Book Editing Services

I have a deep appreciation and respect for you and your work. From day one, I’m on your side and ready to do everything I can to make your book a success. But I want you to feel confident in my services too. To ensure we’re a good fit, I offer a 1,000 word sample edit with no commitment on your end.

I offer the following book editing services:

Manuscript Evaluation Developmental Editing Line & Copy Editing Proofreading Marketing Editing

Manuscript Evaluation

The manuscript evaluation includes an in-depth overview where I will read your manuscript cover to cover and identify its strengths and weaknesses. I will look at the plot, storyline, writing style, setting, characters, structure, and anything else I notice.

What you get:

  • One complete pass of your manuscript.
  • An editorial report that highlights strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement to help you make informed decisions about what to change, where to make improvements, and what to leave.

Note: This edit does not make any edits to the manuscript. Ultimately, you, as the author, decide whether to change, remove, or leave things.

Estimated turnaround time: 3 weeks

Price: $0.022 per word

Developmental Editing

The most in-depth analysis of your manuscript you can get, the developmental edit often results in rewriting or reordering the events to strengthen your story. In this edit, I will identify its strengths and weaknesses and address the plot, storyline, writing style, setting, character arcs, pacing, structure, clarity, and factual inconsistencies.

What you get:

  • Three complete passes of your manuscript.
  • An in-depth editorial report that highlights strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement to help you make informed decisions about what to change, rewrite, reorder, or leave. It will also include specific comments on your manuscript with questions, suggestions, and highlighted areas of concern.
  • A Word document with track changes and comments so you can accept or decline my edits and suggestions.
  • A PDF clean copy with my edits.

Estimated turnaround time: 4 weeks

Price: $0.030 per word

Line & Copy Editing

Line and copy editing focuses on the “mechanics” of your manuscript. This edit has two parts. First, I look at writing style, voice, language issues, and organization paragraph by paragraph. I will leave comments detailing ways to improve your writing by offering suggestions on smoothing transitions, changing sentence structure, showing vs. telling, flagging inconsistencies, and making the tone more consistent. I will also edit grammar, punctuation, word usage, and spelling. I will look for consistency in capitalizations, numerals, and spelling of unique words/names.

What you get:

  • Three complete passes of your manuscript.
  • A Word document with track changes and comments so you can accept or decline my edits and suggestions.
  • A PDF clean copy with my edits.
  • A style sheet unique to your manuscript with characters, places, and unique spellings.

Estimated turnaround time: 4 weeks

Price: $0.030 per word

Proofreading

Proofreading is the last editing step, where I will review and add/fix any final touches. This edit includes but is not limited to correcting typos, misspellings, punctuation, and changing isolated words or phrases but not whole sentences.

What you get:

  • Three complete passes of your manuscript.
  • A Word document with track changes and comments so you can accept or decline my edits and suggestions.
  • A PDF clean copy with my edits.

Estimated turnaround time: 2 weeks
